Build

Start with: Boots of Speed and four health pots

Then buy these in order: Haunting Guise, Sorcerer's Shoes, Abyssal Scepter, Rabadon's Deathcap, Deathfire Grasp

Then upgrade: Haunting Guise --> Liandry's Torment, Sorcerer's Shoes --> Enchantment: Homeguard

Finish off with: Warmog's Armor

Abilities

Always start wirh your Q, then E, and then W. If you wanna poke a lot, max your Q first, then W. If your looking for more burst damage, max you W first, then Q. And of course your E afterwards and your ultimate whenever it's possible.

Playstyle

Engage when the enemy team has used most of their cc abilities, that can stop katarina's ultimate, (stun, knockup, and silence), and, if you have any other AoE ultimate in your team, for example Amumu, when he has used his ultimate.
